LANDSCAPING PROJECT

The Merrimack Village District Alternative Landscaping Project is available for self-guided tours to the public. There is a map and guide of all the landscaping located here. All plantings are drought resistant, hardy species native to the area.

Our grass is a fine fescue blend that is low maintenance with a low mowing frequency. This fescue can be used in sun or shade that receives little or no supplemental fertilization or irrigation. When irrigation is necessary, try using alternatives to sprinklers. If possible, install a drip irrigation system, which delivers water directly to the roots. A rain barrel system is also an excellent way to reduce water usage and to have water on hand for dry spells. Both of these systems can be viewed at our Landscaping Project at the MVD office at 2 Greens Pond Road or for more information on the rain barrel system go to www.sprucecreekrainsaver.com or www.rainbarrel.com

Tthe Alternative Landscaping Project is a wonderful place to learn about native, near-native and drought-resistant plants for your home landscaping needs. You can download a full list of plant descriptions as a PDF file. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the list.
