Water Leak Detection Program

While water systems are built to weather corrosion, external pressure, and constant wear, nothing is infallible. Issues such as water main breaks, leaks, & cracked fixtures are inconvenient and costly. As a proactive measure of prevention, MVD applied for, and received, a Leak Detection Survey Grant from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Drinking Water and Groundwater Bureau’s (NHDES DWGB). Grant recipients receive a no-cost water leak detection survey conducted by a professional leak detection company or specialist that is contracted by NHDES. Leak detection surveys are a valuable tool for identifying leaks in water mains, service lines, hydrants, and valves. Implementing proactive leak detection and repairs can assist with reducing pumping & treatment expenses, enable more effective management & prioritization of system projects, as well as protect the quality and availability of the water supply.

NHDES has contracted American Leak Detection (ALD) to conduct leak detection surveys. Over the next 1-2 weeks, ALD staff will be conducting surveys throughout town using cutting-edge technology and non-invasive methods to listen for and isolate the location of leaks in the water system. ALD staff may or may not be accompanied by a member of MVD’s Field Staff.
ALD technicians will be in clearly marked vehicles and will have photo ID available.

Water leak detection is scheduled from September 15, 2025 through September 19, 2025
(Please note, this time frame is dependent on weather conditions).
